the importance of being poetic

she rejects the poem

she said the poem

lacked

something.

she said
it read more like
a story

than a poem.

she said my poem
wasn’t

poetic enough.

and when i wrote
her back
i asked her

to explain what poetic
meant.

so she wrote me
again.

she used my poem
as an example

breaking up the lines
as i’ve done with

this poem.

she wrote that
being poetic was doing
things like this

line breaks.

spacing.

getting the meaning across

i wrote her back

thanking her

for the suggestion

and for the definition of
what it meant to be

poetic.

she told me that i was welcome

and

better luck placing the poem

elsewhere.
