if women weren’t allowed to vote in 2020

king trump would have us locked up in farms

making him money

until we were no longer able to bear children



sexual predator laws would slacken until

they didn’t exist

women would become chattel again

mares to be traded for money or goods



if we couldn’t vote

all of the 10’s would probably be fine,

but the rest of us would float like dead birds

in green poison seas

there won’t be an environmental protection agency



it may seem like I’m exaggerating

but I can promise you that I’m not

I have a B.A. in women’s studies

and I’ve read the history

I’ve read the biographies of suffragettes

who chained themselves to the fences outside the white house

women’s history is a history of servitude to men



so go vote,

while you can
