day TWO HUNDRED and NINE

pumice

i answered santa claus  i feel a
thousand years ago to the question
what do you want to be when you

grow up crowds of men as miles of
corn and beans cotton and harvest
wheat clamor to be kent clark

hiding superman in a time of soft
wings and soft skins and soft
lures exiting a thousand

abandoned phone booths and
radioactive changing rooms
emerging as angels of death

mc escher drew a picture of the
first known case of forensics
being used to solve a murder

the village sheriff recognized
the victim's wounds as being
caused by a farmer's scythe

painting each man in a line
behind his tool the flies landing
on one sickle seemed to buzz

forever
