day EIGHT HUNDRED and THIRTY FOUR

november 2016

The day
after
the 2016 elections
I listened to
“Only a Pawn In Their Game”
and
felt that
tingle shoot up my spine
when I heard Dylan sing
about poor whites
being used
by wealthy politicians

I feared
a lot of things
about what may come
but the ultimate fear was
that
someone
could take
that chill,
that sympathetic vibration
of music
or poetry
hitting the bullseye
deep in my chest
away from me

It’s 2 years now
since then
and I have found solace
in Howlin Wolf’s creaking throat
& Lightnin Hopkins
steady thumb

I don’t have to
sing the blues
someone else
will do it for me
