the War of 1812 Peace Garden
wait, do those words go together
I mean other than as a title
by Tolstoy, a book I’ve never read
the War of 1812
a war that most Americans
can’t tell you dick about
myself included
I guess that’s a hazard
when this country has had
so many wars
who can keep track of the stats
who won, who lost, why
as a country
we’ve been at war
almost every day
I’ve been alive
that’s forty-two years
and change
maybe the garden
should be renamed
another step in
America’s endless bloodlust
memorial garden, instead
